YSELLE Johann Christiaan
Johan(n) Christia(a)n YSELLE (YSELLI, ISEL, IZEL, YSSEL), van Hasle of Hasli in die kanton Bern (Switserland), gebore 1733, oorlede 18.5.1807. Kom in 1753 hier aan op die De Vischvleit. Kleremaker. Trou 26.9.1762 met Johanna Dorothea VAN DAALEN, gedoop 18.11.1742. Volgens Hoge p 482 was sy die buitegtelike kind van Jan Gustavus Daale en Johanna Franken; hertrou 31.3.1782 met Anna Albertina BIENVIGNON, van Morges in die kanton Waadt (Switserland), dogter van Jean Baptiste BIENVIGNON en Luisa DUMONT. Die stamvader het sy van as beide Yselle of Yselli geteken. Sy nageslag in Suid-Afrika het ondermeer ISEL, IZEL en YSSEL gebruik. Die stamvader het 9 kinders uit sy 1ste huwelik en 3 uit die 2de huwelik.

YSELLE, JOHANN (JAN) CHRISTIAAN
Johann Christiaan YSELLE (from Swiss descent) arrived in South Africa in January 1754 on the ship “Visvliet”. The captain of the ship was Leendert Fruit van HERTOG and it was send by the “Kamer Zeeland (the chamber of Zeeland, in Middelburg, the Netherlands). It was a ship from the “VOC” and departed from Rammekens harbour (the Netherlands) to Batavia, via Kaap de Goede Hoop. He got off in Cape Town. The original spelling of the surname is ISELI, from Swiss origin. The “surname” arrived in South Africa as YSELLE. It changed to various versions but the only two remaining in South Africa is YZELLE (the “s” was replaced with a “z”) and the more common known surname YSSEL. The meaning of the surname refers to the material iron and specifically a small piece. He came to South Africa initially as a soldier but later moved into the clothing business (tailoring) Johann Christiaan YSELLE was born on a farm Bärgli close by Hasle bei Burgdorf im Emmental im Kanton Bern in der Schweiz (Switzerland) in 1732. He married Johanna Dorothea (van) DA(A)LE(N) on 26 September 1762. She was also from Switzerland. She was the child of Jan Gustavus DALE and Johanna FRANKEN.

Johanna Dorothea (van) DA(A)LE(N) died 3 March 1782 Johann Christiaan YSELLE married again. His second wife was Johanna Albertina BIEN-VIGNON. She came from Morges im Kanton Waadt in der Schweiz (Switzerland) Her Swiss parents were Jean Baptiste BIEN-VIGNON and Luisa DUMONT. She arrived on the ship “de Parel”in 1739. The ship’s captain was Jan van THIEL. The ship belonged to the “VOC” and the trip was from Texel in the Netherlands to Batavia. She embarked at Cape Town.
