Johann Heinrich was born on 1 December 1732 in Örlinghausen in the Lippe district, Westphalia Germany, s.o. Hans Heinrich Greive en Anna Elsabe Niewohner. Arrives at the Cape 4.10.1757 as a soldier on board "Wildrijk". In 1772 he is appointed the superintendent of Groote Schuur. Becomes a burger in 1780. The surname was originally GREIVE or GRIEVE.  It means “man in charge” He married 28 Nov 1773, Cape Town, Maria HEYDENREICH (d.o. of Gottfried HEYDENREICH and Johanna ROGIERS) He died on 12 May 1800
