RICHARDS, Henry
Having signed up with the Byrne Settler Scheme to Natal 1850, Henry Richards (born 1809), his pregnant wife Anne Elizabeth (born Scott 1814), and four daughters sailed from England on the “Minerva” in 1850.
During the voyage Anne gave birth to a son, Henry John.
Also on the ship was Henry's widower brother, Edward (born 1812), and his five children.
Henry died at Wentworth, Durban in 1852 and Anne died in Ladysmith in 1862.
Their children were:
- 1) Annie Charlotte – born England 1842, married her first cousin Edward Rutland Richards (1836–1884) in Pietermaritzburg in 1858 and died in Newcastle in 1921.
- 2) Emmeline Mary – born England 1843, married Francis Augustus Robert Johnstone (1840-1922) in Pietermaritzburg in1860 and died in Newcastle in 1923.
- 3) Mary Anne – born England 1846, married Alexander Jamieson McPherson (1836-1893) in Ladysmith in 1862 and died in Ladysmith in 1912.
- 4) Henrietta Elizabeth – born England 1848, married Thomas Wyatt Minter (1841-1885) in Ladysmith in 1865 and died at Boscobello near Newcastle in 1880.
- 5) Henry John – born at sea 1850, married Petronella Wilhelmina Moll (1857-1936) in Wakkerstroom in 1875 and died on farm Groenkloof near Wakkerstroom in 1930.

RANDLE, James
Having signed up with the Byrne Settler Scheme to Natal, James Randle sailed from England on the “Minerva” in 1850.
He married the widowed Anne Elizabeth Richards (born Scott 1814) in Durban in 1853 and died in Pietermaritzburg in 1855. Anne died in Ladysmith in 1862.
Their children were:
Elizabeth Pollett – born in Durban 1854, married Edward Sylvester Archer (1855-1925) in Wakkerstroom in1879 and died in Durban in 1925
Amelia Susanna – born Pietermaritzburg 1855, married Johannes (John) Vos (1838-1915) in Wakkerstroom in 1877 and died on farm Lands End near Charlestown in 1937
There are no male descendants from this marriage thus not a Progenitor.
