BOSHOF Willem Hendrik
Willem Hendrik BOSHOF
Stamvader Willem Hendrik (Guillaume Henry) BOSSOU - the surname later became BOSHOF - came to South Africa on 18 March 1741 from Bajonne in France. However, according to J A Heese - Familia no 2/1986 - Willem signed up for service with the VOC in Amsterdam. On 27 October 1740 he boarded the "Ruijven" at Texel and left for Batavia, he was ab arquebusier. When the Ruijven sailed into the Cape for provisions there were 28 sick passengers on board. Willem was so sick that he had to remain in hospital when the boat left for Batavia. On 15 October 1752 he married Martha Maria CORDIER who was baptised on 20 May 1736 - daughter of Philippus Cordier and Elisabeth Malherbe. Willem was a black smith and a burger of Swellendam. Willem and Martha had ten children.
